Anna Graham spent her childhood singing and dancing professionally—landing gigs at Madison Square Garden and Caesar’s Palace and an appearance on “Law & Order: SVU.” Even so, the Bowie, MD native had one eye on a career in interior design as she “rearranged her bedroom constantly” creating a ballerina room and moon-and-stars room, among others. After graduating from Radford University in Virginia with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design, she took a job with a design/build company that specialized in kitchens and bathrooms, although her end goal at the time was commercial interior design. But the K&B business quickly won her over. “I fell in love with the personal connection you are able to make with your clients and also the hands-on role the designer is able to maintain through the construction project,” says Anna.
So, in December 2018, she launched Anna Graham Interiors and over the past four years has completed more than 300 projects, ranging from residential remodels to restaurants and medical offices. Her company has won the Capital Gazette’s Best Interior Design Firm award for the Annapolis area three years running and consistently has 25-30 ongoing projects at a time.
“I fell in love with the personal connection you are able to make with your clients and also the hands-on role the designer is able to maintain through the construction project.”
Foremost in Anna’s design philosophy is timelessness. “Personally, I like to design with a conscious effort that the design won’t be aged in five years,” she explains. “I always tell my clients, ‘Let’s go trendy on the items that can easily be changed over the years, in the hardware, lighting, backsplash or wallpaper.’” Because cabinetry and countertops aren’t an expense that everyone has the liberty to replace every 10 years, Anna says she likes to ensure that her designs live out the life of the materials. “It’s more sustainable that way, too,” she adds.
Anna, who describes herself as “caring”—her biggest goal is that her clients “have a wonderful experience and I leave them feeling like they were heard and that their requests and hopes for their project were exceeded,” she says—has been married to her high school sweetheart, Brian, since 2016. In her leisure time she enjoys playing pickleball with her family and friends and visiting atmospheric cities, such as Charleston, SC, where she makes it a point to tour a historic home and appreciate its craftsmanship. In her future? Italy. “I hear amazing things about the country and would love to spend a couple of weeks there exploring the history and architecture,” she says. “Not to mention the amazing food and wine!”
