She wasn’t obsessed with decorating her room as a teenager — her self-expression was centered on dance — and she didn’t realize she wanted a career in design until college, but Jeannifer Ellington has been all-in ever since. Raised in Raleigh, NC, and a 2018 graduate of Western Carolina University with a degree in Interior Design and a focus on Sustainable Residential + Kitchen and Bath Design, Jeannifer turned a summer internship at H2 Builders into a full-time position as a cabinet designer. Working in the company’s custom renovation division, she specializes in sustainable and biophilic design for luxury kitchen and bath projects.
“What excites me the most about my job is the opportunity to improve the health and well-being of my clients by providing them with more direct and indirect experiences of nature in their own homes.”
“What excites me the most about [what I do] is the opportunity to improve the health and well-being of my clients by providing them with more direct and indirect experiences of nature in their own homes,” says Jeannifer. Her methods include incorporating additional windows to increase natural light and air flow, designing with natural or earthy finishes and opting for low- or no-VOC paints and environmentally conscious manufacturers when possible. Some of her favorite sustainable materials are reclaimed woods, recycled glass countertops and reclaimed brick.
Jeannifer’s passion for green design also led to her selection as one of the 80 Voices from the Industry speakers at KBIS 2019. Known for her attention to detail and sense of space, she is working toward NKBA design certification and volunteers with her local NKBA chapter to improve student outreach.
When not helping clients create their dream home, Jeannifer enjoys yoga, kayaking with her three-year-old husky mix Koda (she also has a cat named Piddles) and spending time surrounded by the nature of Lowcountry. Her two major must-do’s in life mirror her passions: She wants to hike the Inca Trail in Peru, and to start a non-profit that provides renovations for low-income families.
