Eager to get her career started after graduating in 2016 with a degree in Interior Design Technology from Lethbridge College in Alberta, Shantelle Yablonski moved back to her hometown, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and at age 21 took a position as “manager of first impressions” in the reception area at Superior Cabinets. It was her responsibility to welcome clients and assist the sales and design teams with the showroom’s front-end. She has since been promoted to Senior Design Consultant and now serves retail, renovation and builder clients.

“I truly believe kitchens are the heart of the home,” she says. “It’s where friends and family can come together to not only enjoy a meal but also each other’s company. It’s a space in which people feel comfortable, relaxed and tranquil.”

“I truly believe kitchens are the heart of the home. It’s where friends and family can come together to not only enjoy a meal but also each other’s company. It’s a space in which people feel comfortable, relaxed and tranquil.”

Shantelle immerses herself in all things design and architecture and says her “easy-going” personality is well-suited to the hands-on process of designing spaces and selecting finishes. “I love how you can express yourself in the spaces with color, texture and design,” she says.

Her most memorable project? One she created for a client with a style similar to her own — simple with hints of color and unique designs. “I’d put this kitchen in my house,” she says.

Some of her earliest creative endeavors were childhood hobbies such as art classes and pottery making. And, of course, she decorated her own room, recalling it as “very bright and colorful.” Today, she favors black, white and neutral hues. She also seeks a mellow ambience in her vacation spots—“I loved Jamaica…the vibe was very easy-going and not a worry in the world”—and she spends her spare time in Saskatoon boating, watching live sports and hanging out with friends and family (and her cat, Ziggy). Shantelle’s ultimate life goal is simple, much like her preferred designs: “To take advantage of every day and enjoy life.”
