What do Abu Dhabi, France, the United Kingdom and Canada have in common? Alex Dickson has lived in all four: He was born in the first, grew up in the second, attended university and began his career in the third and emigrated to the fourth in 2018. In August 2020, he landed a sales executive position with Vancouver-based PK Brand Management, representing Kohler Co., Kallista, Sterling Plumbing, Robern Brands and Montigo fireplaces across the British Columbia interior. And during his short time at PKBM, he managed to sign the largest-ever “full Kohler” specification in the region, valued at more than $3 million CAD, with three towers under construction in Kelowna. Alex, whose sales territory covers the 258,553-square-mile BC interior and whose other responsibilities include managing eight showrooms supporting all five brands, says that what appeals most to him about kitchen and bath design is “being able to help turn something routine and mundane into something memorable.”

“I’d never been [to Canada] before, but I’m so glad I made that leap of faith back in 2018. It was tough going at times, and at first I thought of going back to the U.K., but after three years and finding myself working for PKBM and living in Kelowna, I’m pretty sure I made the right call.”

A graduate of St Mary’s University in Twickenham, England, where was a history major, Alex continues to indulge his “history nerd” persona by spending time reading. He gets his adrenaline kicks playing rugby with the Kelowna Crows and enjoys hiking and wine-tasting. His design preferences are equally eclectic. “Having grown up in France, I love a rustic feel to a room, however, after living and working in the City of London, I developed a taste for a real refined space. Some might call it a bit dusty — picture M’s office in the old James Bond movies,” he says. “Despite that, I’ve designed my own apartment to be quite minimalist, with clean lines and little clutter.”

Alex believes his biggest career accomplishment was taking a chance and moving to Canada. “I’d never been here before, but I’m so glad I made that leap of faith back in 2018,” he says. “It was tough going at times, and at first I thought of going back to the U.K., but after three years and finding myself working for PKBM and living in Kelowna, I’m pretty sure I made the right call.”
