As a sales and design representative for Kitchen Doctors, her family’s Midlothian, Va.-based kitchen remodeling company, Grace Sheehan wears many hats. She helps clients through the design process, creates “dream kitchen” renderings in ProKitchen, posts on the company’s social media pages and strategizes best practices for continued sales growth — but her favorite aspect of her job is “sparking joy!” Says Grace: “I love connecting with clients and discovering what brings them joy and comfort and incorporating those discoveries into a tangible design that combines function with their unique needs and aesthetic. There is something invigorating about visiting a completed remodel and seeing a weight lifted off the client’s shoulders and a huge smile on their face.”
“Mixing eclectic design with biophilic design elements speaks to my soul. I love going against the grain and being close with nature. Eclectic design gives you permission to be yourself and layer the eras that showcase your personality.”
Grace describes herself as “thoughtful” and her own personal design preferences reflect that. “Mixing eclectic design with biophilic design elements speaks to my soul,” she says. “I love going against the grain and being close with nature. Eclectic design gives you permission to be yourself and layer the eras that showcase your personality. Biophilic design incorporates natural elements, which have a positive and calming effect on our overall wellness as human beings.” She honed her insights into wellness while earning her bachelor’s degree in Health & Exercise at Virginia Commonwealth University, and is currently working toward her NKBA Remodeling Specialist Badge and CKBD certification. Grace is also proud to serve on the board of the NKBA Virginia State Chapter, as Programs Chair.
After many childhood hours spent “creating cities for my toys to live in” with LEGOs and at age six choosing her own paint colors (pink and green) and wallpaper (kittens) for her room, Grace was hooked on design. These days, her spare time is spent walking or hiking with her boyfriend, volunteering at her local SPCA (and running the Instagram page of her two rescue cats, Granger and Oliver) and indulging her passion for personal wellness. Her favorite spot to visit is her mother’s birthplace — County Clare in Ireland, for its “wonderful people, hauntingly beautiful scenery, historic relics and medieval architecture” — but her must-do in life is decidedly less serene. “One day,” she says, “I am going to cage dive with great white sharks in South Africa.”
