The NKBA Professional Design Competition recognized two Specialty Categories winners in Outdoor Kitchens and the Clay Lyon Builder/Remodeler Award. The outdoor kitchens took on extra importance in the era of the stay-cation, and the winning design created a magnificent poolside entertaining space, with pergola, defined dining and conversation areas, grill, refrigerators and ice maker, bar, TV and fireplace.
The winner of the Builder-Remodeler Award kept the open concept space clean and uncluttered by hiding the busiest parts of the kitchen behind a built-in unit that unfolds to open, revealing a clever storage scheme.
There were two stages of judging, first for the “WOW” factor, and then those finalists moved onto the second round, which evaluated aesthetics, graphic and presentation standards, creativity, safety and ergonomics, elements and principles of design and planning and adherence to NKBA Guidelines and Standards.
NKBA received hundreds of entries for the 2020-2021 competition, which was sponsored by design software firm 2020 Spaces, Beko Appliances and House of Rohl. (To see the 2021 Awards show on demand, go here.)
