This year’s Student Design Competition, a challenge blending elements of two cultures for a fictional family in upstate New York, is open to NKBA student members enrolled in a design program for the. 2020-2021 school year.

Winning this prestigious competition sets aspiring designers on a path to increased industry visibility, peer recognition and networking opportunities. Winners will be honored at the Kitchen & Bath Design + Industry Awardsceremonies on the eve of KBIS 2022. Prizes include cash scholarships, a feature in KBB magazine for first-place kitchen and bath winners, a trip to KBIS with complimentary registration and a ticket to the KBIS 2022 expo, admission to the design awards ceremony, hotel accommodations and airfare.

NKBA will award cash scholarships in both kitchen and bath categories. Each first-place winner gets $5,000, second place wins $2,500 and third place wins $1,000. Entry is free, and submissions will be accepted until June 1, 2021. Students may submit for kitchen, bath or both.

Scoring will be based on how well the designs accommodate the fictional clients’ requirements and wish lists, aesthetic and technical merit, elements and principles of design, the NKBA Kitchen and Bathroom Planning Guidelines and NKBA Graphics and Presentation Standards.

Student membership in NKBA has been free, thanks to the generous support of Sub-Zero, Wolf and Cove, which covers the cost of membership as well as Affiliated School Student Chapters.
