Chapters

There are two weeks left to self-nominate for an open chapter officer position for the coming 2023-2024 term for Membership Chair or Secretary/Treasurer. Anyone currently in these roles and eligible to serve another term must still self-nominate for the position as continuing in the role is not automatically granted. If your chapter has an open position for any of the other officer positions, they will need to be appointed by the council and will not be included on the open self-nomination form. The Election Schedule can be found on the Resources page of the website.

Self-nominations received by National will be emailed to the Secretary/Treasurer every Friday until the deadline on July 15. Please review the applications for eligibility and forward to your Recruitment Committee who will conduct interviews of each candidate.

If your chapter has more than one candidate in a position, you will need to submit a Slate by July 22. Please refer to the Election Schedule for further information and deadlines.

To assist you with recruiting new officers, there are documents on the Resources page, under Chapter Elections, which include the role and responsibilities of each position, and the videos from January’s training sessions, under Chapter Officer Training.  Chapters should post an election notice on the News page of your NKBA webpages to advertise for open positions. In addition, many chapters have sent flyers to their members when volunteers are needed.

It’s time to check the webpages!  Remember to keep news relevant and up-to-date. Post those events and member spotlights.

The Communications Chair is responsible for maintaining your chapter’s webpages. Upcoming chapter meeting notices, local news, pictures and local sponsors all contribute to robust web pages. And, don’t forget to repost articles from the National Newsfeed to remind members of events and some great topics.

Additionally, your chapter officers’ email addresses on the “About Us” page should be populated by you. Many chapters are using generic email addresses and we are now allowing you to populate this area. If you need any assistance navigating your web pages, contact us at chapters@nkba.org.

You are the link to member engagement! Here are some thoughts about membership retention and growth.

  • At your next council meeting:
    • Review the Membership Growth plan outlined in Strategic Plan
    • Discuss if it is achievable and how is the chapter progressing.
  • Some additional ideas:
    • Celebrate and appreciate your membership, welcome them back as in-person meetings are a reality again.
    • Task your members or council to tell at least 5 professionals about the NKBA, have them document! (Perhaps a reward can be arranged)
    • Give your local NKBA events exposure via your webpages and/or social media sites. This can be priceless to members.
    • Keep members excited about their membership – we recommend sharing this at a meeting or on a post:  NKBA Video
    • Survey your members, ask them what kind of experiences they would like to be part of in the chapter.
  • More meeting Ideas:
    • Recycle Ideas!  If it brought engagement in the past, bring it back!
    • Think outside the box (or screen) for something more ideal. Mix up the topics and speakers. Turn learning into a game (everyone loves trivia!). Have year-long competitions and track points. At the end of the year, the member with the most points wins a prize.
    • Engage your hosts — they’re members, too, and they might have some great ideas!

NKBA’s Luxury Bath qualitative research study is due out in late June and follows last year’s study that focused on luxury kitchens. The report defines the qualities of a luxury bathroom, shares some of the most recent design trends, and delves into the roles of brands and technology in bringing these bathrooms to life. The study also includes tips and strategies from designers who specialize in this space, based on extensive one-on-one Zoom interviews. Among the highlights:

  • Bathrooms have evolved from spaces of basic functionality to ones of retreat, connection, self-care, and refuge.
  • There are both functional and emotional sides to luxury baths, with the former involving a high level of craftsmanship and customization and the latter focusing on comfort and beauty at every level.
  • Luxury baths must respect the integrity of the house while reflecting the lifestyles and values of its owner.
  • Bathroom technology should be subtle, helping make the room a place of relaxation, not stimulation.

The report contains details on the above items and much more. Click here to read it in its entirety. Access to all our reports are included in the cost of NKBA membership. Cost for non-members is $1995.

The NKBA Design Competition will be open until July 25 and has enhanced prize money and new categories. Please encourage your chapter members to enter this prestigious competition for their chance to win big! Detailed information can be found here.  Note: All materials need to be entered by July 25 – there is only one round of judging for this competition.

NKBA’s professional Design Competition is closing on July 25. Judging will occur in August with winner notification by early September. Winners will also receive a VIP package to KBIS.

NKBA will be piloting a Kitchen of the Future Contest this Fall during National Kitchen & Bath Month.  The program was announced on the June Chapter President’s call and flyers have been distributed to all chapters.  We encourage all chapters to participate and continue to build relationships with their local middle and high schools in their geographic areas.

The contest asks students to develop concepts around the kitchen of the future.  They can solve a problem, come up with a new product or innovation, or describe challenges they see in the way a current kitchen functions.  Students will have the month of October to develop their presentation and then provide to the chapters for review.  This program is run and funded at the local chapter level.  The chapter with the most schools and student participation will be recognized during chapter officer training at KBIS.  For more detailed information on this contest, click here.

As NKBA continues with its NextUp initiatives, we wanted to provide the chapters with some resources.  The below article was on the NKBA blog and newsletter and lets members know what is being worked on regarding skilled labor.  There is also a template at the end of the article that members can use to send to their legislators.

NKBA + You = Addressing the Skilled Labor Shortage in the Kitchen & Bath Industry

A new one-sheeter is also available for chapters to send to their local schools, use at home shows or other events promoting jobs in the skilled trades as well as the NKBA NextUp program.  Click here.

Our Thirty Under 30 Program is designed to celebrate the future rock stars of kitchen and bath. As an industry professional, you can nominate a colleague or enter directly with a few easy steps. Complete the nomination or application form below by Monday, August 1, 2022. Click here for more information.
