REWRITING THE RULES ON KITCHEN LIGHTING Light is one of the most powerful tools in the designer’s toolbox. Used properly, it not only enhances the appearance of a space, it can compensate for low vision and enhance the health, safety, and welfare of users. Forget what you think you know, and bring an open mind to see what real-world testing can tell you about the efficiency of various types of fixtures, lamps, and placements. Did you know that one type of bulb can put out up to 20 times the delivered foot candles of another of equal lumen output? If you think that is a dramatic difference, consider this: placing the cans in one spot can deliver 100x the amount of light as with another, more popular placement? Come learn from one of KBIS’s highest speakers, who is also one of the authors of NKBA’s upcoming Lighting Badge, which deals with both lighting and daylighting the kitchen and bath. It’s time to “up your game” in lighting, and this is an easy way to start!
