A New Jersey design-build firm takes a different approach to help combat the skilled labor shortage in construction.

There is no question that the K&B industry has a shortage of workers. In fact, through 2028, 705,000 jobs are expected to open up in the design and construction industry — and there aren’t enough people on a career path to fill them. At least, not yet.
Companies can fill these gaps by attracting individuals who are just graduating from high school or college. NKBA member Amiano & Son, a design/build firm based in Southampton, N.J., with an additional location on Long Beach Island, is capturing the attention of potential workers by embracing technology, adjusting company culture and with a new way of thinking. The company, founded in 1968, has discovered that the Millennial generation has a strong focus on work, but strives to maintain a work-life balance — so it’s adapting to accommodate this concept. Amiano & Son shared its experience transitioning their workforce from Gen Xer’s to a younger generation with out-of-the-box thinking. See how they did it here.
