Designer Chad Dorsey creates spaces that exude relaxed luxury — a balance of tailored style and modern living, of exquisite form and flawless function. It’s an aesthetic he expertly executed inside the first-ever Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Dallas, where more than two dozen designers worked to transform a rambling, two-story home.

“We are absolutely blown away with how it turned out!” says Elise Kersh, Design Engagement Lead for Monogram Appliances, a sponsor of the project. The highly esteemed design event is held annually in New York and Florida to raise funds for the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club. Kersh says Monogram is proud to sponsor the inaugural Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Dallas, and honored to partner with Chad Dorsey on his “stunning” design.

A trained architect-turned-interior designer, Dorsey was tapped to tackle the kitchen inside the 11,000-square-foot home. Ultimately, he created dual spaces: one for cooking, the other for entertaining, both equally beautiful.

In designing the kitchens, Dorsey envisioned conceptual clients who are avid entertainers and world travelers; they love to host lavish dinner parties, where food is cooked in the prep kitchen, then brought out for guests to enjoy.

It’s All in the Prep

“The prep kitchen was designed to be a working pantry that can be enjoyed by the entire family but also be out of site for any visitors in the main house,” says Dorsey. Inspired by an English sunroom, the space is bright, airy and intimate. It has a traditional yet modern vibe that extends to the appliances.

“The space features a full kitchen from Monogram’s Statement Collection,” Dorsey says. “There’s a mix of appliances in the entire space that any cook would love.”

A Monogram Professional Range has sealed, dual-flame stacked burners that are easy to operate and to clean, along with edge-to-edge handles, polished stainless steel, smoothly finished edges and large electronic control knobs for an authentic professional appearance.

The mixed metals incorporated into Statement Collection hardware was a selling point for Dorsey, who utilized brass details throughout the kitchen — including a striking brass hood custom-made by Monogram. “It really has a handcrafted feel,” he says, “but it’s something I can purchase through my appliance dealer.”

The prep kitchen also includes a Monogram Convertible Fridge with an optional glass front door — “the real star of the show,” Dorsey says; a Five in One Wall Oven, an innovative multi-tasker; and a Hearth Oven, the epitome of culinary luxury.

A Place to Entertain

Transitioning to the entertaining kitchen, the art of cooking is seamlessly integrated into a dramatic design. Ebony oak millwork was designed to feel like furniture, with minimal contrast as the cabinetry meets dark quartz countertops.

Dorsey wanted luxury appliances that would essentially go unnoticed in the grand scheme of his design, which is why he chose Monogram’s Minimalist Collection. This line features a streamlined look that’s contemporary yet functional.

The Monogram Induction Cooktop is flush mounted and “just disappears into my quartz countertops,” says Dorsey. Looks aside, he points out that induction cooking also offers precise cooking and easy cleanup.

The Minimalist Double Oven is similarly state-of-the-art and sleek. And though it fades into the smoky cabinets as intended, stainless-steel trim adds a sophisticated pop of visual interest.

“The Minimalist Series by Monogram works with the overall design of my kitchen because of its precision and attention to detail,” Dorsey says.

Inside the spectacular Kips Bay Decorator Show House, it’s the best of both worlds — the Statement Collection’s elevated traditional style, and the Minimalist Collection’s simple elegance. An entertainer’s dream come true.
