NKBA’s 2018-2019 Student Design Competition is open for submissions. By Loren Kessell
Aspiring designers can stretch their creativity in this year’s “Sky’s the Limit” Challenge, the theme of the 2018-2019 NKBA Student Design Competition.
Submissions are now open for the 2018-2019 contest, which this year boasts a new twist: Students are charged with designing a kitchen or a bathroom for a fictional, newly married couple in their 30s living in San Francisco. The space requires a modern-meets-earthy theme and must incorporate smart-home technology. Student designers are encouraged to let their imaginations and creativity run wild. Besides creating a design that accommodates the fictional clients’ needs, the designers must work within a kitchen budget of $50,000 and a bathroom budget of $20,000.
The past two Student Design Competitions have resulted in live builds for real clients, and therefore had more limited budgets and stricter design requirements and parameters.
Entrants in the “Sky’s the Limit” Challenge are competing for scholarship prizes: $5,000 for first place, $2,500 for second, and $1,000 for third. Winners will be recognized at the 2020 Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Las Vegas, Jan. 21-23, 2020, where they’ll receive free admission to the show floor, access to the awards ceremony, airfare and lodging.
All who enter must be NKBA student members enrolled in an educational institution on the date of submission. For more details and information regarding qualifications, submissions, requirements and rules, click here.
All submissions are due no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2019.
