Self-nominations deadline is June 15.

There’s still time to think about chapter officer elections for 2019!

Serving as an officer in your local chapter is a terrific way to give back to the industry while you’re building your own business, gaining stature as a leader in your community and the industry at large.

All candidates must self-nominate to ensure interest in the role. Positions run for a single two-year term, with the option to self-nominate again for another two-year term. Once an officer has served for four years, he or she must be off the council for at least two years.

All officers must be NKBA members. Only one officer can come from the same company or family. To be a Chapter President, a member must have served at least two years in a previous officer position. All regular members in good standing are eligible to vote; Student members are not eligible to vote nor to hold an officer position.

Forms are available at www.nkba.org under Chapters. The deadline to throw your hat in the ring is June 15, 5:00 p.m. (Eastern Time). Chapters are responsible for verifying the candidate’s contact information and eligibility. If only one person self-nominates for a position, that person wins the position. If there are no self-nominations for a position, the Council will appoint an individual, and if more than one person self-nominates, a slate must be submitted to National by June 22, and the chapter must hold an election.

NKBA recommends that chapters hold election meetings between June 23 and Aug. 10. Most chapters conduct their voting via email, and then tally completed ballots and send results to National. For chapters holding an election meeting, the meeting date must be announced four weeks in advance; It is suggested that there’s an additional person at the registration desk checking membership. Ballots would be distributed to and completed by members, collected during the meeting and tallied by the Chapter Secretary/Treasurer.

Election results are due to NKBA headquarters by Aug. 17 and will be posted on the chapter’s home page and the NKBA website on Aug. 31.
