The National Kitchen & Bath Association has released its 2016 Design Trends Report, identifying the hottest trends in kitchens and baths for this year. Some significant design trends slated to impact both the kitchen and the bath are:

  • Transitional style continues to dominate in both kitchens and baths, although contemporary looks are also emerging in kitchen design.
  • While gray and white/off-whites are the most common kitchen color schemes, mixed colors are emerging. NKBA members reported pairing creamy whites with charcoal, and other light/dark combinations.
  • Simplified storage, including pull-outs, tilt-ups, roll-outs and hidden outlets are increasingly specified in both kitchens and baths.
  • More than 60 percent of NKBA members reported adding pet spaces to their kitchen projects in 2015, including built-in feeding stations, food storage and crates.

The National Kitchen & Bath Association has tracked kitchen and bath design trends throughout its 53-year existence. A version of this NKBA Design Trends Survey has been in existence since the 1980s and this iteration has tracked trends since 2010. More than 450 designers from around the country participated in this study conducted online in late 2015.
