What You Will Learn

Many Designers retreat from the topic of “illumination”. This design element, with its ability to transform the look of space, is sometimes unfamiliar and Designers may not fully understand the “how”, “why”, “where”, or “what” to include for illumination. There is a perception of complexity and difficulty which at times, persuades them to forgo using illumination or hand it off to others. In the end, most kitchens end-up with some form of illumination added, but not necessarily in a fashion which best compliments the Designer’s intended results.

In reviewing illumination in the kitchen industry, we will provide insights on the importance of using this design aspect as the fourth dimension when sculpting space.  We know consumers perceive tremendous value in well illuminated spaces; it triggers an emotional response for most consumers and becomes a must have, when properly presented.  So we know as the Designer creates a vision for the project, incorporating illumination can be an impactful tool. In fact, more and more Designers see it as a pillar of their design language and one which can be utilized effectively in accentuating the uniqueness of their creations.  In this overview of illumination, we will explore the impact it provides to design and how to make the entire process of creating illuminated kitchens EASY to execute.

The net result is the Designer impacts all aspects of the design with the incorporation of illumination; it ensures their vision for the space is fully appreciated. Other important considerations are an increase in perceived value and the percentage of jobs won will grow as clients better see the real potential of the project.  Finally, the Consumer is the recipient of cabinets with better aesthetics and functionality. These are a few of the transformational impacts delivered when illumination is included in the project design.

During this session, you will:

  • Explain the benefits of including illumination in the design process.
  • Review options to make adding illumination EASY throughout the process.
  • Examine the unknowns when adding illumination to designs.
  • Discuss the available tools to make the process EASY.
