The 2020 NKBA Living Impacts Design Study surveyed 759 North American designers, remodelers, architects, dealers and manufacturers who are on the cutting edge of kitchen and bathroom design.
Unlike NKBA’S traditional design trends research which explores what styles, products, materials, finishes and colors are trending, this new initiative focuses on the why behind design preferences.  This study examines how the functional and emotional needs of homeowners influence kitchen and bath designs, investigates why the design preferences of consumers are influenced by their lifestyles, life stages, and habits, and identifies the solutions designers are using to fulfill these needs.
The four overarching themes which emerged from the research, and which pertain to both kitchen and bath design, are homeowners’ needs for Connected Living, Simplified Living, Healthy Living, and Living in Place.  Included in this report is a section which explores the functional/emotional needs and the design solutions which align to each of these themes.
