Refrigeration specialist Liebherr’s commitment to innovation in product design and performance is equaled by its dedication to sustainable production, green manufacturing, and minimal environmental impact.

The company, a global leader in appliances, technology, and heavy equipment manufacturing, is also a pioneer in green manufacturing, emphasizing top-tier product quality with minimal environmental consequences. Its ecological responsibility begins at the design phase, ensuring product reliability, durability, and long-term energy efficiency through the integration of premium components.

Liebherr takes a multi-pronged approach to sustainability, from design and sourcing to manufacturing and distribution. Since 1993, the company has been an industry-leading champion of environmental responsibility. By developing advanced appliance technology, Liebherr refrigerators perform at highly efficient levels using eco-friendly refrigerants like R290 and R600a. These choices result in significant energy savings, with its compressor models and ultralow freezers continuing to set industry standards in compliance. Its models have earned Energy Star® certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The company implements progressive measures, including energy recovery for heating and the adoption of purified water in production, to reduce its environmental footprint. In a public Sustainability Claim on its website, Liebherr says its general aim is to “reduce the environmental impact of our products and services to the greatest possible extent. Our corporate policy expresses our philosophy in relation to environmental management. Within the scope of this, our ecological responsibility for a new appliance series starts right at the beginning of the design process. We only use premium-quality components to ensure that our appliances function reliably over time and with optimum energy efficiency.”

Those premium-quality components play a big role in sustainability. Not only do they add years to the appliances’ lifespan, thus requiring less-frequent replacement, but they also do not contain any toxic substances that could be harmful to the environment, users, or food. This extends to appliances, accessories, spare parts, and packaging.

The pledge continues, noting that the manufacturing processes are also geared to the efficient use of resources and, in order to implement its corporate policy and constantly improve its environmental performance, all of Liebherr’s production sites are “certified to international environmental standard ISO 14001.”
