Baths will continue to evolve to be spa-like spaces that support wellness, according to NKBA’s highly anticipated 2024 Bath Trends report. This will translate into many aspects of the space, notably technology that serves to help homeowners “get away from it all” and find refuge in their baths. Below are five wellness-centered tech solutions that will show up in the bath over the next two to three years.

1. Upgraded Showers

Showers will be larger. Some will also have steam, while others will sport features like body jets, sprays and multiple/rain shower heads. Many clients will want smart showers as well as touchpad controls with options for personalized shower settings.

2. Wet Rooms With Steam

Look for wet rooms with steam, which will bring the spa experience directly to homeowners. Exhaust fans will have humidity and steam sensing features, and some mirrors will have anti-fog technology, making this feature easier to use.

3. Customizable Lighting

Mood lighting will be a key feature to turn baths into a place to relax, according to designers. So will lighting presets for various times of day, giving homeowners the option to create the ambiance they want, when they want it. Mobile device-connected lighting will also be popular.

4. Smart Toilets

Another bath element in demand will be smart toilets with water conservation, as well as self-cleaning features. Additionally, some clients want smart bidet toilets, which have become increasingly popular with homeowners in the last couple of years.

5. Heated Floors

Heated floors, with mobile apps and wall controls, are coming into their own as homeowners look for comfort and ease of use. This also fits in with the increased focus on sustainability as the most popular type will be electric radiant flooring.
