5 Wellness-Focused Kitchen Solutions

Smart refrigerators, ranges with integrated cooking functions and other appliances will be part of the healthy trend in kitchens.

As health and wellness become increasingly important to consumers, kitchens are turning into spaces focused on healthy eating and nutrition. And homeowners want appliances that create well environments, according to NKBA’s recently released 2024 Kitchen Trends report. Below are five wellness focused solutions to expect in the next two to three years.

1. Smart Refrigerators

New refrigerator technology will help with menu recommendations and shopping, making it easier to select and cook healthier foods. In addition, the popularity of smart refrigerators will go hand-in-hand with a kitchen design attitude that over half of designers in the report highlighted:, kitchens with connected technology and smart appliances are now the standard.

2. Ranges With Integrated Cooking Functions

Designers said a majority of clients want appliances that have integrated cooking functions such as steam cooking and air frying, making it easier for them to cook healthier meals. Convection ovens and microwave drawers will also be popular and help provide clients with cooking options suited to their health needs.

3. Refrigerators With More Flexibility

The majority of designers in the report said homeowners want more refrigeration with better flexibility. These solutions include drawers and columns, as well as convertible refrigerators. Homeowners also often have two refrigerators, one in the kitchen and one in another area. Designers reported that the main reason clients wanted more refrigeration space was to accommodate their healthy living lifestyles.

 4. Precise-Cooking Ranges

Some clients are also looking for technology that supports precise cooking as opposed to just low-medium-high options. Such flexibility will make preparing foods that meet nutritional needs much easier, while still being satisfying.

 5. Refrigerators With Preservation Technology

“[Clients are looking for better] storage solutions for fresher, less preserved foods,” said one designer in the report. And refrigerators with technology that extends the life of fresh foods can help homeowners in maintaining their food so that it is healthier, for longer. Emergency power sources will also play a part in preventing premature spoiling.
