Christine Spillar, CMKBD, capitalized on the vintage charm of a century-old house and infused it with modern details in her winning bathroom, a rustic escape tucked away in a lower-level primary suite. Addressing the challenges of a tight space and low ceiling, Spillar took 24 inches from an adjacent laundry room and raised the ceiling by 4 inches, which made the space feel much larger. Adding a barn door on the outside of the bathroom also left more room inside, and allowed installation of a towel bar. A brick wall echoes the home’s exterior, tying into its historic aesthetic, and a wood vanity with a concrete-look top and integrated sink add to the natural vibe. She achieved a modern industrial look with black faucets, trim and details, while a white steam shower with large-format tile and a bench gives the traditional space a shot of contemporary style.
