Samsung has been internationally known for its unwavering investment in speed, scale, reliability, and above all innovation for over 50 years. The brand first gained international recognition in the 70s mass producing home appliances, but after establishing two research development centers and a slew of groundbreaking technological innovations in later decades, it is now one of the top manufacturers in the world and the fifth largest exporter in South Korea. However, Samsung’s innovative designs aren’t just reserved for entertainment rooms, as it also possesses a sleekly modern line of kitchen appliances incorporating the latest in smart devices.
Today we talk to Nancy Butner, who joined Samsung in April of 2016 as a founding member of the Home Appliance and Builder Channel sales organization. In her current role as Vice President, she is responsible for the strategic direction and sales leadership, focusing on the continued growth and development.
NKBA: What sets Samsung apart from other high-end kitchen appliance manufacturers?
NB: Samsung Electronics relentlessly strives to deliver innovative products and experiences that maximize user convenience and make our consumers’ lives better. We believe that technology should work for all people, and our innovations are designed to provide more personal and intuitive experiences that express consumers’ personalities. With our vision to be a home and lifestyle creator, we deliver truly customer centric innovation that will deeply satisfy diverse lifestyles.
NKBA: How is Samsung connecting to different generations of consumers, specifically Millennials and Gen Z?
NB: As the fastest-growing segment of homebuyers, millennials’ living spaces are evolving. This new generation of homebuyers is seeking home appliances that work seamlessly, fit their lifestyles, and reflect their unique personalities. That is exactly what they can expect from Samsung with a broad portfolio of lifestyle home appliances to make their living spaces anything they need and want them to be.
NKBA: Samsung is known for being on the cutting-edge of technology. Is there anything we should be excited about coming down the pipeline for kitchen appliances?
NB: To help address emerging homebuyer trends for more personalized living spaces, we introduced a customizable Bespoke kitchen. Bespoke panel-ready appliances can easily be personalized with a wide variety of designer-inspired colors and finishes to create unique spaces that reflect homebuyers’ personalities. The entire Bespoke line is beautifully designed to match, complement, or stand out in the kitchen, while offering the connectivity customers expect from Samsung.
Can you talk a little bit about SmartThings and how it revolutionizes connectivity in the kitchen and greater home area?
NB: Samsung’s customizable appliances and connected living solutions empower builders and designers to deliver the experiences today’s homebuyers are looking for, and as those connected experiences continue to evolve, so does Samsung’s smart home platform – SmartThings. SmartThings powers Samsung’s entire ecosystem of connected appliances and thousands of third-party devices from more than 200 global brands.
Creating uniquely personal, connected experiences is what makes SmartThings a powerful connected home platform, whether customers are looking to automate daily routines for convenience, monitor their Samsung appliance care and energy usage, or seamlessly control their connected home from anywhere.*
NKBA: More on the personal side, as a female executive, do you have advice for other up-and-coming female leaders?
NB: Perseverance pays, remember to be true to yourself, find mentors, and say yes to opportunities!
