The 2021 NKBA Design Competition will open on Wednesday, April 1, 2020.

The NKBA’s annual competition offers an exclusive platform for designers, as well as builders/remodelers to showcase their expertise in kitchen and bath design and benefit from nationwide industry and media recognition.

Submission Dates for 2021:

Round 1:

Early Bird – April 1 – May 31 *NKBA Members receive first entry FREE. Each additional project entry is $129

Entry period – June 1 – July 3 *Entries for NKBA Members $129 per entry

Round 1 submissions close on July 3.

*Non-Member pricing is $199 per entry

Round 2 (if project(s) advance):

Finalists announced July 15

Round 2 submissions – July 15 – August 19

*CATEGORIES FOR 2021* – The competition is divided into the following ten main categories. Select the category that best characterizes your design(s).

  • Contemporary Kitchen: Small/Medium (Under 250 sq. ft.)
  • Contemporary Kitchen: Large/Extra-Large (More than 250 sq. ft.)
  • Traditional Kitchen: Small/Medium (Under 250 sq. ft.)
  • Traditional Kitchen: Large/Extra-Large (More than 250 sq. ft.)
  • Contemporary Bathroom: Small/Medium (Under 55 sq. ft.)
  • Contemporary Bathroom: Large/Extra-Large (More than 55 sq. ft.)
  • Traditional Bathroom: Small/Medium (Under 55 sq. ft.)
  • Traditional Bathroom: Large/Extra-Large (More than 55 sq. ft.)
  • Outdoor Kitchen
  • Living In Place

What’s needed?
A project installed between January 1, 2019 and July 3, 2020, clear photos, a concise design statement, elevations, specification sheet, a floor plan to scale, all release forms and a completed entry form. The 2021 NKBA Design Competition Entry Packet provides comprehensive information on the entry process as well as competition rules & requirements.

Here is a checklist of items that are needed with each Round 1 submission:

  • Complete the online entry form
  • Upload 2 high res (300 dpi) photographs
  • Pay the entry fee (Once you click “submit entry” on your entry form you will be redirected to the payment gateway)

Should your submission make it to Round 2, you will be notified via email on June 24th. You will then be asked to upload the following documents to your online entry.

  • Upload additional photos (Up to 10)
  • Design Statement
  • Drawings (construction, floorplans, elevations, mechanical)
  • Specifications Form
  • Client Property Release Form
  • Photographer Release Form
  • Business Owner Form
  • Headshot
  • Biography

What’s the Deadline?
All entry packets must be received at the NKBA Headquarters by Friday, July 3, 2020 by 11:59pm ET.
