KBIS can be an overwhelming experience, but it is so fun to see the latest and greatest, and the unique, cutting-edge ways that familiar products are being showcased.
LUXURY
Andi Claus, Mont Surfaces - NKBA WM Membership Chair
In the world of surfaces, natural and engineered stone were used as focal points as well as supporting characters. Notably, there were many unique and interesting details showcased in fabrication and installation. We've been seeing and utilizing full height splash for quite some time, but the addition of sliding panels that allow for storage behind that stone backsplash is a fun luxury feature that was showcased in many KBIS vendor booths. We also saw more detailed edge profiles returning, with things like multiple miters stacked for a staircase effect, or a six-inch miter kicked outward at a 45 degree angle to create a pyramid feel to the top. Lastly, the epitome of luxury can be created with a solid carved marble sink, or an integrated stone sink. We saw these highlighted as well.
EDUCATION
Jessica Crosby, Delight in Designs - NKBA WM Programs Chair
Another great feature of KBIS are all the learning opportunities. From the Voices of the Industry talks brought to us by the NKBA to in-booth events where vendors are hosting their own experts - KBIS offers an opportunity for growth for attendees. Marketing yourself, being an expert in your field, communicating with your clients -- it's all there!
There are 32,632 pieces in a kitchen remodel, do you (as a homeowner) want to be responsible to pull all those pieces together?
The need for a designer seems clear to those in the industry! For 2024, emphasize customer service. Why should a client being doing business with you? It's not because you love your job or have passion about your ability to create a beautiful space. Your budget shouldn't be an issue so long as you bring value.
Of course, we also learn about trends. Trends includes trends in consumer habits and desires. A HUGE trend for 2024 and beyond is Cozy Luxury. Think light filled rooms, natural light, high end furnishings; the disposable furniture is on it’s way out – Gen Z’s are willing and able to spend for quality.
