Design in the Classroom

West MI NKBA was happy to make a classroom visit and help teach 5th graders about some critical parts of design.  Using both our ART and MATH skills we worked on reading blue prints for houses, learning about using a architectural scale.  Students got to participate in an activity where they drew a bedroom to 1/2 scale complete with doors, windows and other features.  They then got to play with arranging furniture in the space to see how many different ways they could arrange the room for best function.  Classroom participants got to take home their pad of grid paper and new skills to give it a try in their own rooms at home.

Thanks so much for having us!
