Denver’s Best Design Awards Event

The Peak Design Awards Gala inspires creativity and highlights the latest in design trends.

Written by: Stephanie Shephard & Jenni Russel

The Peak Awards allow designers to display their talent and be celebrated by their peers. It creates engagement in the design community and fosters the growth and development of new ideas. The Peak Design Awards Gala was held on June 23rd at Mile High Station in Denver. NKBA Rocky Mountain Chapter members submitted amazing kitchen and bathroom designs that inspire creativity and highlight the latest in design trends. Attendees traveled to paradise with a fabulous “Night in the Tropics” themed Gala.

The evening's sponsors included Monogram Luxury Appliances, The Stone Collection, Specialty Appliance, BAC Appliance Center - a Ferguson Enterprise, and Ballerina-Küchen. The evening began with a special appreciation happy hour to honor those and the many other sponsors who generously support the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the NKBA. Guests arrived dressed in their elegant tropical best. This coupled with the surrounding décor which included tropical plants and flowers set the stage for a beautiful event.

The chapter’s beloved Jeremy Parcels saved the day when he stepped in to Emcee the event at a moment’s notice. This was due to the scheduled emcee falling ill just days before the event. Together with Hostess chapter President Kimberly Stubbs, an inviting, charming, and funny atmosphere was created for all to enjoy.

A panel of accredited designers judged the works and awards were presented to first, second, and third place winners in multiple categories. Best before and after in both the kitchen and the bathroom categories were also judged. Additionally, attendees had the opportunity to vote for the People’s Choice Award.

Each year at the Peak Awards Gala the NKBA Rocky Mountain chapter honors winning students from its Peak Student Competition. These amazing young designers attend the Peak Awards Gala for a night of fun and a chance to meet industry professionals in a relaxed setting. This is also a great opportunity for potential future employers to see some of the best student work in the region! The Peak Student competition is held each year alongside the Peak Professional Competition. The student competition is set to the same requirements and design scenarios as the National Competition. This allows future professional designers to receive input and feedback on their projects prior to submitting them to the National competition.

Congratulation to this year’s student competition winners:

Kitchen of the Future Contest

NKBA National has created an exciting competition as part of the Next Up program for 8th & 9th-grade students! The Kitchen of the Future Contest starts October 1st and goes through October 31, 2022. The winning student project and their school each win $250 in prize money sponsored by the participating Chapters!

The Rocky Mountain Chapter Board has voted to participate in this exciting opportunity! This contest will introduce young students to the Design and Construction Industry and hopefully a future career they may have not previously considered.

We are asking members for recommendations of schools that you, as members, would like us to reach out to for participation in this competition. Unfortunately, we cannot invite every school in Colorado to join the competition as we need members to volunteer their time to be judges for this competition. The more volunteer judges we have the fewer projects each will need to review. Each judge will be placed in a judging group with a volunteer coordinator. Coordinators will then bring the top project in their group for final judging among the coordinators to select the winning student project. Judging will take place during the month of November.

We need help with this competition from our members to help our local kids be able to participate in the exciting opportunity! Please see the Kitchen of the Future Member Participation form if you are interested in helping to make this competition a success or adding to our school donation and send it to:
