New York Design Industry Coalition welcomed friends & colleagues on July 12

After a three-year hiatus, the New York Design Industry Coalition Summer Social was back! Anticipation was high with the event selling out in less than two weeks! It was clear that everyone needed a night out and the opportunity to blow off some social steam with fellow colleagues. The evening did not disappoint. Despite being a pared-down event with no specific theme, guests turned out in their summery best—from caftans to leggings to floaty floral dresses. Shoes, for both men and women, added whimsy and a dance-party vibe.

And party we did in the loft-like Blender Workspace, at 135 Madison Avenue. Taylor Dawson, our on-site contact, made sure the event ran smoothly. Music for the Social was provided by Long Island native, and fellow kitchen and bath designer, Kevin Concle. It was a departure from our usual DJ, but a single, electric guitarist was a great fit for both the evening and the mood of our attendees, ranging from soft rock to danceable tunes. And for a change, there was plenty of bar-height and sofa-plush seating for cozy group chats and tete-a-tetes, providing opportunities to catch up and find out all the latest industry news.

For cooling down after a spin on the dance floor, chilled white and rose wines were on offer, along with icy lemon water from a carafe. For those with a sweet tooth, Chef Melissa from Viamelissa provided delectable desserts of frozen fruit, strawberry shortcake, and chocolate raspberry lollipops. The main spread for the evening was catered by Food Trends, an industry favorite, and they delivered: lobster rolls, beef chateau, cilantro/lime shrimp skewers, chicken saté, vegetable pot stickers, vegan sushi, tacos, crudité, and cheese platters were just some of the many munchable selections.

As the event concluded, there was a last call and a last dance before everyone stepped out into the humid, summer streets of our fair City, already anticipating what next year’s event might bring?

The Coalition Summer Social is a membership event produced for our industry trades and our angel sponsors, without whom we could not provide quality programming and events such as these. This stellar evening was generously supported by Beko Home Appliances USA, Cambria Surfaces and Blender Workspace, together with the committee, which consists of ASID Metro, Designer’s Lighting Forum NY, Interior Design Society New York City Chapter, IFDA New York Chapter, and our own NKBA Manhattan Chapter!
