Design Competition 2023

Enter and celebrate 60 years of the NKBA in one gala evening of the decade!

Once again, the NKBA Georgia chapter is offering its designers the opportunity to showcase their kitchen and bath projects shining a light on their hard-earned skills, distinctive style and underscoring the highest ideals of the National Kitchen & Bath Association. 

Winning projects will be featured in our (media partner TBD), chapter website, social media, and other outlets. Winners will be announced during the NKBA Georgia chapter’s  awards ceremony and

NKBA 60th gala on November 16, 2023 at Truist Park.

This year’s competition will be knocking designs out of the park for NKBA’s 60th anniversary.

SUMMARY OF PERTINENT INFORMATION
CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY
Project needs to have been completed within the time period of

August 31, 2020 – August 31, 2023

by an NKBA Member in good standing.


ENTRY FEES
$100 per entry (limit of 2 tickets per designer entry; e.g. 3 entries by 1 designer = 2 tickets)


Entry materials will not be accepted until entry fee is paid.

CRITERIA FOR JUDGING
Except for showroom entries; projects will be judged by a panel of Certified Designers from another NKBA Chapter by the following:


Design Planning:

NKBA Kitchen & Bath Planning Guidelines
with Access Standards (pre-2023 version)
 Creativity
 Elements and principles of designs
 Safety and ergonomics
Presentation: NKBA Graphics and Presentation Standards for Floorplans and Elevations
 Able to scale
 Easy to read
Submission of all required documents as listed.

DESIGN COMPETITION CATEGORIES

Kitchen
A. Large Kitchen (more than 350 sq.ft.)
B. Medium Kitchen (150-350 sq. ft.)
C. Small Kitchen (less than 150 sq. ft.)
D. Open Floor Plan Kitchen (includes 1 or more of the following: no walls between the kitchen and adjacent interactive living spaces, complementary cabinetry installed in the adjacent space)

Bathroom
A. Large Bathroom (more than 100 sq.ft.)
B. Medium Bathroom (45-100 sq. ft.)
C. Small Bathroom (less than 45 sq. ft.)
D. Powder Room (must contain a sink & a toilet, no tub or shower)

Special Categories
A. Other room (e.g. butler’s pantry, laundry, mud room, outdoor kitchen, study, etc.)
B. Showroom entries will be judged on the elements & principles of design, safety and ergonomics.

ENTRY INFORMATION
RULES AND ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

 All applicable sections of the entry form must
be completed including all required signatures.
 “Designer of Record” is the designer entering
the competition and will receive the award for a
winning entry. The individual must be a current
member of the NKBA in good standing.
 “Co-designers” may be listed as such if the
“Designer of Record” wishes to include them. If
there is a co-designer listed, they will be
recognized but will not be given separate
awards. Architects, builders, remodelers, interior designers or decorators, if listed as co-designers, are not required to be NKBA members.


 Builder or other Industry Professionals may also be listed by the designer. They will be recognized by name but will not receive separate awards.


 All plans and drawings for the project must be neat, easy to interpret, and professionally presented. PDF original media size must not be larger than 11X17.


 All floorplans and elevations for the project must meet NKBA Graphics and Presentation Standards (abridged, pre-2023 version).


 Drawings must be to scale at 1⁄4”, 3⁄8”, or 1⁄2” = 1’-0”. If metric measure, 1:20 or 1:24 may be used and must be listed as such.

 Drawings may be hand-drawn or computer-generated but must be submitted electronically.

 No color may be used on the drawings other than that of blueprints.


 Block out all identification from all submitted drawings, photos, product lists and design statements. This includes, but is not limited to, company, client, project location or designer identification.

 A Design Statement (limit to 200-400 words max.) should be included to present the client’s wants and needs, the project’s challenges and how these parameters were met. It should be written clearly so that the judging panel will be able to understand the scope of the project. Include an introduction narrating how you would like the project to be announced.


 A Project Products List form must be included listing products used. Include brand, model, color,
and other information.


 There is no limit to the number of projects submitted. A complete and separate set of entry materials must be submitted for each entry.


 Each entry fee includes 1 gala ticket, but there is a limit of 2 tickets per designer.


 Photography of projects must be submitted digitally. Photos should clearly represent the scope of the project.


 Must include one preferred color photo labeled “BEST”, which is to be print quality and high resolution (8”x10”, 300 dpi). Up to 6 additional web-resolution color photos (72 dpi) may be submitted.


 The Georgia chapter may retain non-exclusive rights to all photography for use in future promotional, magazine editorial, public relations, and educational purposes with applicable credits to the designer and photographer.


 Reasons for disqualification: required materials are not submitted digitally, required criteria is not
met, submission not received by the deadline, or entry fee not paid.
