By Elisa Fernández-Arias

Mark KovichMark Kovich, President and CEO, Essential Cabinetry Group, and former NKBA Chairman, has been in the kitchen and bath industry for many years. Kovich, whose career has been largely focused on leadership, sales and marketing in cabinetry and manufacturing, has brought a strategic mindset and business acumen that have contributed to the continued success of the companies where he has worked. Kovich was also the first NKBA Chairman as the association transitioned from its old governance structure to a new structure in 2016.

NKBA recently talked with Kovich about his time as past NKBA Chairman, his career and life since then and what he sees for the future of the K&B industry.

Memories of NKBA

When reflecting on his time at NKBA, there was one memory that Kovich said stood out the most: working on and sponsoring the Student Design Competition. “Having the opportunity to see so much talent in and enthusiasm for our industry was very inspiring to me personally,” said Kovich. “Our association and the industry as whole will continue to thrive as a result of the pipeline of young talent.”

Changes in the Association

Since his time as Chairman, the biggest change Kovich has seen is the phenomenal growth of the global influence the association has had on the kitchen and bath industry. He added that the continued effort by NKBA leadership to build a global brand will position the association for future growth.   “Worldwide, NKBA and its members are seen as an expert source for consumers, adjacent industry associations, economists and other influencers of the industry,” said Kovich.

The Future of K&B

Kovich is feeling optimistic about the future of the kitchen and bath industry,  predicting that the industry will see solid growth over the next seven to 10 years. He credited future growth to the unwavering desire of people to not only own a home but to also make it an expression of themselves, driving the industry forward. “I am always amazed by the innovative products and ideas that are developed to meet the ever-changing needs of customers,” added Kovich.

Closing Words

The conversation ended with Kovich discussing what he has been doing since his time at NKBA  — and sharing some career advice. Currently, Kovich is focusing on his work at Essential Cabinetry Group. In addition, he and his wife, Lori, enjoy spending time with their four grandchildren.

The career advice Kovich wanted to share with others was simple yet memorable: “Stay true to yourself, and never, ever give up!”
