See how the company is making a positive impact with award-winning technology. By Loren Kessell
Sustainable design remains a strong trend within the industry, and Samsung is dedicated to creating a greener future by reducing its carbon footprint with products that help consumers save energy and reduce their environmental impact.
In September, the company announced it joined the RE100, a global corporate renewable energy initiative, and it aims to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 to combat climate change. As part of this plan Samsung will tap into low-power technologies and ultra-low power memory chips for its products that reduce energy consumption.
Many of Samsung’s products have already been recognized as innovative in the sustainability sphere. Some of the company’s honors include the ENERGY STAR® Emerging Technology Award, the EPA’s Most Efficient distinction and the Corporate Commitment Award. Samsung was the only company in nine years to receive the award for its wide-scale commitment to sustainability.
Another part of Samsung’s overall plan is to improve the life cycle of its products. The company plans to expand its electronic waste collection system from approximately 50 countries to 180 countries by 2030. Water conservation is also on the list, and certain divisions will work toward improving water treatment facilities and quality. Company-wide, Samsung plans to obtain a platinum-level Zero Waste to Landfill Certification, issued by global safety certification organization Underwriters Laboratories (UL), for all global operations by 2025.
