The Leadership Recruitment Committee identifies and screens potential candidates to fill open positions on the Board of Directors and other committees as directed by the Board. It then presents a recommended slate for vote by the Board. This important national volunteer committee is composed of five individuals who serve three-year terms. The national election cycle, happening September 1 to September 30, will include one open position for the LRC. If interested in applying during the election cycle, go here starting September 1. Today we’re featuring Katie Brockman, founder & CEO of Katie Brockman & Co.

How did you get your start in the kitchen and bath industry and/or NKBA?

I began my career in Publishing at Hearst over 20 years ago. Luckily, I had great mentors who taught me about the kitchen and bath industry and the NKBA.

What National Committee are you currently on and why did you want to volunteer for it?

I’m part of the Leadership Recruitment Committee. Throughout my career in publishing I was able to meet and connect with kitchen and bath manufacturers, retailers, designers, builders, and product designers around the country. This bird’s eye view of the kitchen and bath industry made me recognize the importance of the NKBA. As an organization it gives voice to the leaders among us while helping to build engagement for future leaders.

What is your favorite part of being an NKBA member and/or national volunteer?

The community it creates and the opportunities it provides to educate and inspire others about the kitchen and bath industry.

What inspires you about the kitchen and bath industry and/or in your life?

The kitchen is the heart of my home and my favorite room. It’s the place where we connect with family and friends the most. My husband is an amazing cook and I’m an amazing eater so what more could you ask for?

Where is your favorite vacation spot and does that influence your home decor?

I love to travel so picking a favorite is impossible…South Africa, Istanbul, France, Italy, Martha’s Vineyard, Beaver Creek, Santa Barbara are a few highlights for sure. I would say my home is equally eclectic as I have aspects of my home that remind me of these places.

Bonus Questions:

What are you most looking forward to this year, personally or professionally? (or both!)

Being “in real life” more. I am a people person and while Zoom has allowed me to stay connected, nothing is as enjoyable as connecting in person.

What topic or area are you most passionate about in the kitchen and bath industry?

Marketing, Technology and Sustainability.
