The KBIS Exhibitor Committee provides a link between the exhibitors and the NKBA National to ensure that their needs are being appropriately monitored and evaluated. It advises NKBA National on industry trends and makes recommendations for appropriate products, programs and services to meet the needs of the exhibitors and attendees. This important national volunteer committee is composed of up to 10 individuals who represent their KBIS exhibiting companies and serve three-year terms. The national election cycle, happening September 1 to September 30, will include up to four open positions for the KEC. If interested in applying during the election cycle, go here starting September 1. Today we’re featuring Amy Switzer, Marketing Communications Manager at Emtek!

How did you get your start in the kitchen and bath industry and/or NKBA?
After starting my career at an internet marketing company, I was hired as a marketing/PR/Advertising coordinator for a high-end Italian kitchen cabinet manufacturer and distributor. I immediately loved the work–especially the design community and shelter press. 12 years later, I am right where I want to be.

What is your favorite part of being an NKBA member and/or national volunteer?
I love the entire design industry, but the ability to work directly with such talented kitchen designers is my favorite. My mother is a chef, and as someone who also loves to cook, I truly believe the kitchen is the heart of the home.

Do you have a current trend or product that members just have to know more about?
I won’t make it my job to educate a designer about trends, but I personally can’t get enough of unlacquered brass. It brings such a warmth and depth to a space and has such a distinguished European aesthetic that is just so gorgeous, especially after it patinas.

What inspires you about the kitchen and bath industry and/or in your life?
KBIS and some of the other industry shows (ICFF, IDS in Canada) are so inspiring! Tons of great products, and the recent shows this year have been a reminder that being in person with the community is really so important to deepen our relationships and to continue to be inspirations for each other.

Where is your favorite vacation spot and does that influence your home decor?
Mexico is an all-time favorite vacation spot. I grew up in San Diego and the culture, the design and the food is always close to my heart. My husband and I try to visit somewhere in Mexico at least once a year. You can find glimpses of our time there in pieces around our home, like the Mexican blankets in our living room and in some of our art, but the biggest influence is probably in how we spend our time–much of it outside in our backyard and enjoying the company of friends and family.

Bonus Question: What are you most looking forward to this year, personally or professionally? (or both!)
We are launching our new website which is over four years in the making. I cannot wait to see it go live!
