The 60th edition of Salone del Mobile Milano took place Jun 7-12 at Rho Fiera Milano, and the city of Milan celebrated design in every quarter under the umbrella of Fuorisalone.  The commitment toward ethical and sustainable practices was felt throughout the Design Week via  product statements such as:

  • Green elements: From shocking lime to rich mosses and translucent emeralds, it was seen in textured upholstery fabrics, marble counters and floors, plastics, ceramics and wall coverings.  Live trees and plants were used to create secret corners, blinds and intimate gathering spaces.
  • Wood finishes: Wood finishes in tambour and fluted forms were prevalent in cabinetry, closet and credenza components. In kitchens, bedrooms, baths and living spaces – indoors and out mixed materials were found in virtually every vignette. Examples included a variety of textures paring roughhewn, charcoal burnt oak with polished Connemara Marble on cabinets and countertops, as well as boucle fabrics complemented by tightly woven cotton duck canvas on seating.

Further underscoring its support of environmentally-friendly practices, Salone del Mobile initiated the process for ISO20121, the event sustainability management system certification.

In addition, the show – as always – highlighted many exciting products with the following standouts:

  • Kohler debuted its Statement Collection which brings a range of unique shapes and an array of sizes to the shower. Innovative sprays elevate the showering experience, and universal compatibility means the system works wherever in the world it is installed.
  • Scavolini modern kitchen cabinetry makes a statement in every home.
  • Missoni Home’s showroom was a vibrant must-see.
  • Dekton introduced its ONIRIKA line featuring marbled patterns inspired by immersive living.
