NKBA Summit: The Luxury Bath | Virtual Conference | June 22-23. Register Now >

  1. What are the best appliances for outdoor spaces? Select appliances and materials that are rated for outdoor use and weather resistance.
  2. Where’s the sun? Don’t face the seating toward the west if the sun will be in everyone’s eyes any time in the afternoon until sundown.
  3. Is there a prevailing wind direction? If so, do you need a windscreen or some other type of protection?
  4. Where to sit? Seating should not be positioned at the back side of the grill.
  5. How many guests? What is the minimum and maximum number of people you’ll typically be hosting and what can your space comfortably accommodate.
  6. Do trenches need to be dug? Determine whether utilities (gas, water, plumbing/drainage lines, propane, electric) are easily accessible. Be mindful of the frost line in your region of the country.
  7. How can I streamline for the homeowners? Create zones for cooking, prep, plating/garnishing and serving/entertaining.
