NKBA has launched a program to highlight its members online, generously sponsored by Signature Kitchen Suite luxury appliances.
The Member Spotlight program features short videos about companies or individuals, showcased on Vimeo, and produced by NKBA.
The first episode is about Plott Inc., a Dover, N.J.-based technology firm that specializes in smart tools for precise measuring in construction and design applications.
Plott created a platform that uses augmented reality technology and connected tools to scan a space and allow a homeowner, designer, DIY’er or professional to work in the app in an exact, to-scale representation. The company has products for indoor and outdoor applications.
The outdoor tool, “Carta,” connects to a smartphone and can measure driveways, decks, patios or other outdoor areas, making it easy to calculate materials and where to place various elements of the design.
The indoor measuring tool, “Cubit,” develops an augmented reality visualization of a room by scanning the space and offering exact dimensions. The designer, homeowner or contractor can then design with dimensional context in the visual app, and ultimately, use Plott’s tools to help with installation. For instance, the device will guide the homeowner precisely to the place in the room where to execute elements of the design — such as where on the wall cabinetry should be hung, or where the nails should go to hang frames, based on the virtual design.
