CEDIA Expo is taking place in two weeks at the Indiana Convention Center, bringing together more than 150 exhibitors and integrators from all aspects of the smart-home technology universe.

According to Emerald, which owns and produces the show, the ICC maintains a Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) STARTM rating for providing a clean and healthy environment for events. The show’s health and safety plan is available here and mask-wearing policies follow the recommendations of the CDC and local health officials. Following CDC guidelines, Emerald said it “strongly encourages all vaccinated attendees to wear masks,” while “unvaccinated attendees are still required to wear masks at the show.”

Poppy Crum, Ph.D., neuroscientist, technologist, adjunct professor at Stanford University and chief scientist at Dolby Labs, will deliver the keynote address on Aug. 31, the evening before the expo opens. Her theme is “The Future of Storytelling.” Advanced technology has not only allowed for new products and human experiences, but also new ways of storytelling. As changing forms of media grow in popularity and scope, businesses are also able to connect with audiences in previously unimaginable ways. Dr. Crum will explore the future of storytelling and what audiences concerned with changing media ought to be paying attention to now.

CEDIA professional development opportunities, which also start on Aug. 31, include more than 100 sessions on all aspects of home technology and integration, plus business, sales, marketing, problem-solving and best practices. NKBA VP of Marketplace Pam McNally will present “The Performance Home. Where technology meets design™” along with Missy Walters, founder and principal interior designer for Studio M Interiors, on Sept. 2 at 10 am. The session is aimed at architects and designers, and will discuss how technology impacts design decisions across the entirety of the modern performance home. From wellness to living in place, from acoustics to clean air, to lighting, window treatments and indoor/outdoor living, our panel will discuss the collaboration process. Homeowners are asking for these technologies and only proper infrastructure and planning will assure success.
